There's a portable water system that's been invented by Dean Kamen. This machine also "creates" energy.
I think there were some small issues with the filter hoses
or something like that. However, given it's low cost and basic low technology concept. It could be used for small villages. Actually, I believe he built it for just that purpose.

I read all those links on Dean Kamen, (what genius!) and it really is food for thought...and a possible area of focus for Constructzero...? This Dean is a whole Constructzero institution on his own, but he's no marketer like MJ:)

According to that, sea water and any dirty water can be distilled on a community level, plus other energy bonuses.

(Personally, for health, distilled water isn't the best, unless you need a temporary metal detox, but it beats polluted wastewater!)

Hey, thanks for posting this. I'm a huge fan of Dean Kamen and his work.

Like many visionaries he takes quite a few slings and arrows from the media, but keeps on moving forward regardless.

This particular solution is not as cost-effective as I'd like to see. DC3D's need to have all of those elements:

Dirt Cheap + Decentralized

He has a wonderful distribution device, but unless we can get the cost down and get it to run off a centralized grid it doesn't fit the bill of what we're looking for.

I don't say this to in any way take away from the astonishing beauty of what he's accomplished ... I just want to take it a few steps further.

There are tons of companies both (commercial and direct marketing) who make fantastic water purifiers.

The best I have come across is made by the company Carico.

An idea would that the WHO would propose to these companies to create a low cost portable version of that technology that would allow any home in a village to carry a small container (size of a thermos) and filter water and carry it back to their homes for their families.

The obstacle for that though is the usage. If there was a way to have these portable devices last for more than 4 months of daily use. These would be both convenient for the companies to make and for the families to obtain.

Drinking water is a vital vital source for all communities across the globe. The ability to bring that powerful source would have tremendous effects on economical, personal and social agendas.
