I have been watching the advances in solar energy closely as my next goal is to get my house off of the grid and become completely self sufficient. Electricity is the obvious place to start. It seems that with all of the new policies that the Chinese government is implementing to encourage clean energy development, within the next year or so we are going to see a flood of cheap, abundant solar panels from the factories that are taking advantage of these subsidies. Now would be a perfect time to start designing and building a system that would achieve my goal.

I have a fairly good understanding of electricity and electronics as well as a journeyman and a third year apprentice electrician on board to help me through the design and building process and hope to use this thread to share my ideas as well as encourage others to post their thoughts and experiences so that we can work together to design a cheap, reliable, safe and simple system of electricity generation that would meet the needs of an average home. I intend to develop in the end an easily implemented system that can be replicated almost anywhere by almost anyone, at least on a small scale. With many minds working on this I am confident that this can be achieved.
